The Understanding Of Nursing Theories Assignment

Now that you have completed review of theories from nursing and other sciences, reflect on which theory you foresee as being one you can apply graduate-level practice in your specific track and why.

Nursing theories are bodies of organized knowledge that define nursing, what nurses do and why they do it. They provide a framework of concepts and purposes guiding nursing at a more specific level. As a parallel body independent of medicine, Nursing has its own body of knowledge that guides nursing practice and care delivery (Wayne, 2021)The Understanding Of Nursing Theories Assignment. Therefore, nurses need to identify, develop, and understand nursing theories, as these are the core foundations that guide the practice.

Peplau’s interpersonal relationships theory is one nursing theory I will apply in my graduate-level practice. This middle-range theory that Hildegard Peplau developed in 1952 focuses on the nurse-client relationship as the care foundation. The theory defines nursing as an interpersonal, therapeutic process when nurses engage in a therapeutic relationship with those in need of health care services (Hagerty et al., 2017)The Understanding Of Nursing Theories Assignment. There are four components of this theory: the first is the person, defined as a developing organism trying to reduce anxiety resulting from needs. The second is the environment, which consists of forces outside the person, such as culture. Health is a word implying the forward movement of personality and other processes that ensures creativity, productivity, and constructiveness in personal and community living.

Interpersonal relations theory is significant in ensuring quality nursing care as it ensures quality interactions between nurses and patients and improves the patient experience. Through the application of this theory, I will be able to identify and respect the patient’s values and give special attention to their preferences, expressed needs, physical comfort, and provide them with emotional support. This will ensure a patient-centered approach to care, placing patients’ dignity at the forefront through holistic nursing care The Understanding Of Nursing Theories Assignment.
