There are a handful of resources and guidelines that are available for nurse practitioners in the United States. According to Buppert (2020)The Treatment Of Various Infections Discussion, these resources are a handful in offering guidance to the NP, especially in the selection of antibiotics. In the context of this reflection response, there are three major resources/ guidelines that I will use as an NP.

The first one is The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC is a great resource for guidelines on selecting appropriate antibiotics. The CDC website has a wealth of information on various types of infections and the best antibiotics to treat them. This website will be resourceful as it offers a handful of clinical information that will offer the needed guidance for my clinical practice as an NP. The CDC also publishes a monthly publication called the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), which includes detailed recommendations for the treatment of various infections.

What’s more, the IDSA also publishes a number of clinical practice guidelines, which include recommendations on the use of antibiotics for various infections.

The third resource is The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). This is yet another great resource for guidelines on selecting appropriate antibiotics which I will rely on in my practice and specific selection of antibiotics. The ASHP website includes a section on antimicrobial stewardship, which provides guidance on the appropriate use of antibiotics.
