The design methodology used was a prospective non-interventional longitudinal study design. Longitudinal studies evaluate the impact of variables on an observed population over an extended period of time (Busetto et al., 2020). This study was observational, implying that the researcher did not interfere directly with participants’ lives. A non-interventional prospective study (NIS) is one in which a researcher investigates events that will take place after the study has commenced and the participants are observed and data collected at intervals over a specified timeline (Matta, 2019)The Qualitative Design Methodology Discussion. The data collection process in NIS does not interfere with the choice of treatment and medical procedures.

Discuss the sampling method and the data collection methods.

The study utilized stratified sampling methods where a target population is divided into distinct units based on shared characteristics (Hennink et al., 2020). The study population was all patients diagnosed with diabetes type 2 and attending diabetic management clinics for treatment. The eligibility criteria were based on newly diagnosed diabetes (less than five years), age 18 and above, and without any other systematic disease. The participants were either self-referred or recommended by healthcare professionals from relevant sites (Gillani et al., 2022)The Qualitative Design Methodology Discussion. The participants were grouped into five strata based on prescribed drugs. Data was collected using study forms, which were filled in at different intervals in the course of the study. At the start of the data collection process, clinical parameters such as glucose profile, renal function, and lipid profile were recorded.

Discuss the results of the study.

The study established that sulfonylurea combinations played an effective role in the reduction of low-density lipoproteins and triglycerides in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with no known serious comorbidities. A dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor was found to reduce hospitalizations, lipid profiles, and risk scores for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in type 2 diabetes patients regardless of clinical comorbidities (Gillani et al., 2022)The Qualitative Design Methodology Discussion. Patients on both sulfonylureas and DPP-4 inhibitor combinations with metformin had improvements in their lipid profiles over 24 months compared to baseline.

Based on the study’s results, what were the recommendations given by the researcher(s).

The study recommended that healthcare providers be proactive in the management of secondary clinical symptoms to promote patient adherence to medication.

How could the results be used to support a change in practice?

The results could be used to increase and maintain adherence to medication in patients by sending them reminders using different media such as text messages, voice notes, and phone calls The Qualitative Design Methodology Discussion.
