A development team is responsible for developing a system that meets user needs. The team must integrate nurses with adequate knowledge of the patient’s needs and clinical workflows. The successive phases of the SDLC process involve problem identification, analysis, design, implementation, review, and maintenance (Mohan, 2022)The Nurse Role In The System Development Process Discussion.

In the problem identification and analysis stage, the nursing role is essential in providing input on technical, clinical, and medication requirements they would need the system to address. They are most often involved with patients and understand the clinical workflows better. In the design stage, nurse involvement is essential for ensuring the equipment is safe and easy to use, thus preventing early equipment problems that may be faced during the implementation stage (Qin et al., 2017). In the implementation stage, the nurse is responsible for providing feedback on the system’s efficacy and any issues of concern for modification to help meet customer needs. The review and maintenance stage involves monitoring the system and making additional changes required, and the nurses’ role is vital as they are the ones who mostly utilize the system. I need to respond to the post below by offering additional thoughts regarding the examples shared, SDLC-related issues, and ideas on how the inclusion of nurses might have impacted the example described by your colleagues. NEED 2 References

Systems development life cycle (SDLC) are stages included within the life of a framework, regularly on a data system; a show utilized within the venture administration of a system’s improvement exertion, crossing from achievability to its demise (McGonigle & Mastrian (2022). According to McGongile & Mastrian, creating the appropriate team to manage system development is key (2022)The Nurse Role In The System Development Process Discussion. Therefore, nurses can play a role into system development because nurses are the primary caregivers of patients and utilize the system software throughout the entire shift.

SDLC could face consequences when excluding a nurse’s knowledge and or input. Excluding nurses could lead to poorly designed projects and systems simply due to not having a professional who uses the system software often and probably more than anyone else. Not involving nurses could lead to failing to meet the needs of nurses related to patient safety and establishing patient data correctly.

Following the waterfall model that McGongile & Mastrain (2022) provide, it begins with feasibility and ends with maintaining (2022). Nurses should be active in all stages of the SDLC because they aid to build a program that is most user friendly of their liking. Ultimately, nurses use software systems more often than other users in the organization. Therefore, will need the system to be simple and easy to relay patient information to other organizations or units when needed or necessary. A key to successful usage of technology innovation is to recognize its effect on both clinical and regulatory workflow (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (n.d.b).  I personally have not had the opportunity to provide any input in selection and planning of new health information systems within my organization. However, if I did I believe the SLDC could benefit from establishing a better workflow long-term.
