Research And Evidence-Based Practice Discussion
Discussion Prompt

Research can be defined as a study that is conducted to come up with new knowledge that has never existed or to validate an existing one (Chien, 2019). It equips nurses with knowledge on how to respond effectively to health problems. Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) on the other hand is an approach to healthcare that utilizes the most current research available in order to improve safety of patients and health outcomes, and reduce overall costs (Skaggs et al., 2018)Research And Evidence-Based Practice Discussion. EBP entails clinical decision-making using the best evidence available in the context of individual patient preferences and by well-informed expert clinicians. Skaggs et al., (2018) indicate that the major distinguishing line between research and EBP is that research applies both quantitative and qualitative methodologies to develop new knowledge while EBP searches and utilizes the best clinical evidences towards making patient-care decisions.
A research project can be said to be an Evidence – Based Intervention (EBI) when the study is about improving the quality of care for patients (Wu et al., 2018). The research, in this case, makes use of an intervention design which is facilitated by formulated assumptions. A model is used to know the results of the intervention. As patients’ needs become more complex and healthcare systems become more varied, nurses use evidence-based care by incorporating their own nursing research with their professional experience and a patient’s preferences (Yanbing, 2021)Research And Evidence-Based Practice Discussion.
In conclusion, a research project is as a creation of knowledge that helps nurses better their practices. The findings from such researches help shape health policy and improve healthcare at large. This kind of research can be done by any nurse and they can teach others the knowledge acquired.
