Week 3 | Part 3: Research Analysis
I have identified one topic of interest for further study. I have researched and identified one peer-reviewed research article focused on this topic and have analyzed this article. The results of these efforts are shared below.
Directions: Complete Step 1 by using the table and subsequent space below identify and analyze the research article you have selected. Complete Step 2 by summarizing in 2-3 paragraphs the results of your analysis using the space identified. Research Analysis Article Critique Paper
Step 1: Research Analysis
Complete the table below
Topic of Interest: | Nurse Staffing | |||
Research Article: Include full citation in APA format, as well as link or search details (such as DOI) | Sharma, S. K., & Rani, R. (2020). Nurse-to-patient ratio and nurse staffing norms for hospitals in India: a critical analysis of national benchmarks. Professional Practice Use:
One or more professional practice uses of the theories/concepts presented in the article |
Sharma and Rani’s (2020) article focus on the optimal nurse-staff planning level concept. The concept is essential to the healthcare industry since it impacts the care Registered Nurses offer patients. In that case, the healthcare management must work on the nurse-to-patient ratio with different shifts and units.

Step 2: Summary of Analysis
Craft a summary (2-3 paragraph) below that includes the following:
- Describe your approach to identifying and analyzing peer-reviewed research
- Identify at least two strategies that you would use that you found to be effective in finding peer-reviewed research
- Identify at least one resource you intend to use in the future to find peer-reviewed research
When searching for peer-reviewed articles, there was no significant difficulty experienced since the materials are readily available in various nursing databases. The benefit of involving nursing-related databases is that one is assured that the articles have quality information and are reliable. For instance, in a database like PubMed, the researcher is always assured that one will access full articles, thus making them viable for evidence-based research.
The two strategies that were effective in finding peer-reviewed articles include incorporating Boolean operators and using subscription-based repositories. The Boolean operators helped feed the database with more comprehensive information to find the right article (Oermann et al., 2021). However, in the future, the Cochrane database will be more effective for peer-reviewed articles search since it deals with peer-reviewed articles and can filter articles in terms of month of publication, unlike most databases that filter articles using the year of publication (Stapleton et al., 2020)Research Analysis Article Critique Paper. Also, subscription-based repositories will be effective since such databases ensure that only professional materials are uploaded into their system for professional use, like EBSCOhost databases.
