In the first case involving Jane Doe, the ethical path of conduct is demonstrated by the fact that Jane accepts herself as a lesbian which is a positive step in personal acceptance. Jane has a positive perspective about herself despite her sexual orientation. Self-acceptance is essential because it encourages responsibility and high self-esteem. Individuals who accept themselves tend to have a positive value of life which helps to prevent unethical life situations such as suicide and other associated crimes. Self-acceptance as portrayed by Jane helps to improve the capacity for happiness and emotional wellbeing. It also helps to overcome negative emotions and erase negative thoughts. From an ethical perspective, it is justified for Mary and Joe to use in vitro fertilization IVF to have another child because they have lost their only son and they have the desire to have another child. However, their religion forbids one from having an IVF procedure. Given that moral ethics is based on reason while religion is a doctrine that may not have justification based on reason, the ethical path would be to undergo an IVF procedure to have another child. The unethical path of conduct would be to follow the religion that will make them live without a child, an essential desire in their life.

What Would Emotivism Say?
Emotivism is a field of ethics that reinforces the idea that moral judgment does not function as an independent set of facts but as the true expression of an individual’s feelings. Moral statements do not however give information about the speakers’ feelings. Emotivism would have varied opinions based on religion or ethics for particular cases. Emotivism would object to Jane’s intentions about lesbians because religion is a strong perspective that defines the behavior and concludes that given that people are created either male or female, it is wrong to practice homosexuality. However, from an ethical point of view, emotivism would affirm that a person has a right to settle on any sexual orientation because people have the right to do what they like provided it does not violate the rights of others.
In the second case, based on religion, emotivism would say that it is wrong to undergo an IVF because it is against their religion. However, emotivism would justify an IVF procedure based on ethics because it is ethical for one to perform a procedure provided it has a rational justification. Therefore, emotivism would have varied opinions based on whether they are basing their arguments on religion or ethics.
