Diabetes represents as a chronic illness that affects the mode through which the human body regulates blood glucose or sugar. In this case, glucose is referred to as the fuel that constantly feeds the cells of the body but then to get into these cells the glucose requires a key known as insulin (Goyal, 2021). There are several types of diabetes among them type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, and juvenile diabetes.

Individuals with type 1 diabetes do not produce insulin because of the autoimmune conditions that cause an individual’s immune systems to attack and alter with insulin-making cells (Goyal, 2021). Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body fails to respond appropriately to insulin and when the illness develops the body fails to manufacture enough insulin. In addition, gestational diabetes occurs in pregnant women by causing high blood pressure which may affect the health of the unborn child and also the pregnancy (Quintanilla, 2022)Reflection On Differences Between Types Of Diabetes Paper. Additionally, juvenile diabetes occurs among adolescents when the pancreas fails to produce enough or even no insulin at all.

Type 2 diabetes is a significant disease that affects people more people than any other type of diabetes. The most ideal medication for this type 2 diabetes is metformin which is initially prescribed in order to lower the production of glucose from the liver and which helps in improving the sensitivity of the body to insulin (Sapra, 2021). The drug is orally taken one or two times a day during meal time. There are also the Thiazolidinedione drugs that make the tissues across the body to be more sensitive to insulin. The drug is administered orally without food but the drugs can present with issues including nausea. A patient should take a balanced diet and minimize the intake of overly processed and sugary foods.

Type 2 diabetes comes with the huge burden of disease and changes in behavior and lifestyle. Short-term effects of type 2 diabetes include tiredness, excessive thirst, blurred vision, and weakness among others. In addition, there are long terms effects including heart failure, kidney illnesses, neuropathy, and stroke among others. These are critical effects that may lead to patients losing the ability to see, challenges in the healing of wounds, and also may cause paralysis.
