Quantitative And Qualitative Nursing Research Assignment
Quantitative And Qualitative Nursing Research Assignment
Compare and contrast the differences in purpose and data analysis methods between quantitative and qualitative nursing research. Provide two examples of a research question, one question for each type of research, that you might wish to investigate in your future advanced nursing role.

Qualitative Nursing research aims at understanding the behavior of humans from an informant’s perspective. Its purpose is to gather in-depth insights on topics that have not been well understood (McLeod, 2017). The research data is expressed in words so that concepts, experiences, or thoughts can be understood better. Some data collection methods used in qualitative research include interviewing, where participants are asked open-ended questions and give a verbal response, use of focus groups where discussions are carried out among some group of people, and opinions are gathered for further research. Ethnography, which involves community participation for an extended period to closely observe the community culture, can also be used. Literature review is also a common method where published works by other authors are surveyed to gather secondary data.
On the other hand, quantitative research aims at establishing generalized facts concerning a topic. It seeks to explain the causal or correlational relationship between variables through hypothesis testing. The data expression is done in numbers, charts, or graphs and tests and confirms assumptions and theories (Ahmad et al., 2022)Quantitative And Qualitative Nursing Research Assignment. Some data collection methods used in quantitative research include experiments and observations that are recorded as numbers and are usually done in natural environments where it is not easy to control variables. Surveys can also be conducted, and a list of closed-ended or multiple-choice questions is distributed to a sample.
In qualitative research, an example of a question that I can ask on the effect of language on care delivery in a community is: “How do you feel about the care being provided to you by a healthcare provider who does not understand your language?” In quantitative research, one question I can ask in determining an effective plan to reduce polypharmacy in a long-term care facility is, “How many medications do you take per day?”
