Throughout the week seven capstone change course and the practicum project on COVID-19 prevention among pediatric patients, I have learned a great deal about how to effectively design the project, plan, implement interventions, evaluate outcomes and disseminate data. Importantly, I have gained a greater understanding of pediatric patients and their families’ challenges when trying to prevent Covid-19. This is because my practice area is pediatrics, specifically in an acute care hospital. My capstone change project proposal is education and prevention of Covid-19 in children and their families in the acute hospital.
Through the help of my preceptor, who is a case manager, I learned to create an action plan to prevent the spread of Covid -19 in my patient population. The practicum project has reinforced these skills by providing me with an opportunity to implement my knowledge in a real-world setting. I have worked with several pediatric nurses, physicians, patients, and their families, and I have learned how to identify and monitor potential exposures to Covid -19. During the capstone course, I have demonstrated leadership and inquiry by identifying gaps in practice and designing a project to keep my pediatric patients safer from Covid -19 infection.
The Covid -19 education and prevention project has helped me learn about my strengths and weakness. My strengths during this time include staying organized, managing multiple tasks simultaneously, and having a strong work ethic. However, I also have some weaknesses. One of these is my tendency to be perfectionistic and over-analyze things. Perfectionism can lead to stress and anxiety that interferes with one’s ability to function at a high level (Rozental, 2020)Professional Capstone and Practicum Reflective Journal Discussion. My strengths and weaknesses will need to be evaluated and improved upon, but I am confident I can do so. In the future, I will continue to maintain a positive attitude and work hard to improve my weaknesses.
Additional resources that could be introduced to influence optimal outcomes for the project include articles on the disease, patient resources, and online videos about Covid-19 prevention. Finally, resources such as EHRs used to record patients’ demographics, medical history, and medications (Kruse et al., 2018). Using technology in this project would help improve health care outcomes because it will support the delivery of patient care. Electronic health records allow for the electronic capture and storage of patient data, including medical history, medications, and allergies. This information can then improve patient care by tracking and monitoring the patient’s health progress.
In summary, the Capstone Change Course and the practicum project are both extremely valuable experiences. They have taught me a great deal about myself and my abilities, as well as how to serve my patients better. I am grateful for the opportunity to have participated in these programs, and I hope to continue learning and growing as a nurse Professional Capstone and Practicum Reflective Journal Discussion.

Topic 9: Leadership and Economic Models
Throughout the week nine course and practicum, I have gained more in-depth knowledge and insights into leadership and economic models. I have also discovered novel aspects of my professional practice related to leadership, personal strengths and weaknesses, and resources that can be introduced to enhance optimal outcomes.
Registered nurses find themselves in various situations requiring management and leadership skills. These include serving in taskforce committees, managing patients, supervising various personnel, and acting as a team leader. Leaders should provide high-quality, evidence-based care, embrace change, motivate healthcare professionals, manage shrinking budgets and limited resources, and run units that constantly admit and discharge patients. Regardless of the nurse’s area or position, healthcare organizations expect leaders to demonstrate and possess various skills. Some of the best models for organizations include servant and transformational leadership.
The week’s topic focus has enabled me to learn about my strengths and weaknesses. My strengths include emotional stability, perseverance, people skills, trustworthiness, confidence, and eagerness to accept responsibility. Smikle (2019) asserts that members must be able to depend upon and trust their leader. Additionally, leaders must possess people skills that enable them to understand and empathize with others and know their anticipated needs, concerns, and emotional reactions (Cavaness et al., 2020)Professional Capstone and Practicum Reflective Journal Discussion. However, I need to improve my communication skills and interpersonal relationships with culturally diverse populations. Sibiya (2019) asserts that fostering effective communication skills enhances the professional image and builds trusting relationships with clients. I will continually aspire to better my strengths and work to improve on my weak areas.
A resource that can be added to ensure optimal outcomes is leadership training sessions. These would enhance effective management and leadership skills among healthcare professionals. Consequently, they would provide better, patient-focused, high-quality, safe, and evidence-based care that would translate into optimal patient outcomes and increased satisfaction levels.
