Historical data on the application of the magnet program show that it contributes to more positive environment features, marked by substantially increased patient satisfaction with nurse communication, enhanced access to help, better provision of discharge information, declining risk of thirty-day mortality and lower failure to rescue (Phillips,2016). Other data show that Magnet-recognized organizations recruit the best-trained/highly qualified nurses, where 51.4% of RN decision-makers hold graduate degrees. About 50.4% of RN decision-makers are certified by a national institution, and 28.1% are often advanced practice nursing professionals (ANCC, n.d.). Some of the most common strategies that have been used to address the challenge of quality include a combination of techniques including analysis of data and outcomes, setting goals, creating a balanced team, integrating human resource input, creating an executable plan, adopting the PDSA cycle, consistent communication of goals and project progress, researching other organizations and collaborating. According to AHRQ, there are four primary ways that have been used to improve the quality of care. First, there is a need to focus on microsystems, where the hospital is considered a system, as an agglomeration of interrelated “microsystems” or diverse small units composed of healthcare staff, management and other staff. The concept of microsystems shows that a strong focus on small, functional units contributes to better outcomes, especially when dealing with primary activities and processes involving customer experience (Bergerum, Thor, Josefsson & Wolmesjö, 2019).
