The capstone project aims to institute emergency preparedness measures in KGH labor and delivery unit from July 2022 to January 2023. This can be achieved through ensuring improved overall patient safety and improved maternal and newborn outcomes. To improve patient safety, the project will reduce acting time from occurrence of emergency to management of emergency by installing well stocked emergency cart with appropriate checklists. For the purposes of improving newborn and maternal outcomes, the project will onboard skilled midwives and install early critical signs of emergency can be recognized by midwives.

The sixth month long project will include activities such as hiring midwives, training them, purchasing equipment and motivating employees. Training will involve subjects such as the management of eclampsia, management of hemorrhage, IPC, Vital signs, communication, and the use of an emergency checklist.

Like in any quality improvement project, documentation is important.
