The given stance is that pregnant women require HIV and STI testing during pregnancy. However, in as much the testing notion at this point seems valid in amid to protect the life of the mother and the unborn child, the testing should be done before getting pregnant unless the mother had not planned to get pregnant. Such a stand is supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), whose recommendation is that women should make a point of being tested for HIV earlier before becoming pregnant to reduce the chances of prenatal HIV transmission (Hivinfo.NIH.org., 2021)HIV And STI Testing During Pregnancy Assignment Discussion. In their argument, the CDC indicates that the earlier the healthcare providers detect HIV, the earlier the medication process starts, thus reducing the chances of infecting newborn babies with the virus. For instance, Hivinfo.NIH.org. (2021) indicates that through HIV prevention strategies such as HIV medications and antiretrovirals, Europe and the United States have reduced HIV transmission by 1 percent during perinatal. Hence, once women are found pregnant with HIV aids, they must be encouraged to take HIV medicines throughout their pregnancy journey and after childbirth to prevent prenatal and perinatal transmission.

The other advantage of acknowledging the status of the mother before conceiving is that the mother will have adequate time to plan for a scheduled caesarian type of delivery which is more appropriate for women with higher risks of HIV perinatal transmission since they have over 1,000 copies/mL of viral load when they near the delivery time. In conclusion, it would be more appropriate for women in their reproduction stage to take the HIV and STIs tests to acknowledge their status early and during pregnancy to decrease prenatal and perinatal HIV transmission. Medical marijuana, when viewed from a physician’s point of view, is a great intervention for some chronic illnesses such as cancer, but it should not be legalized in all states. The problem that medical marijuana poses concerns its approval, prescription, and availability to the public compared to other prescription drugs (Dryburgh et al., 2018). For instance, marijuana has not been subjected to central regulatory oversight compared to other prescription drugs necessary for medical use. Hence, its availability in most dispensaries depends on the state’s regulatory standards, where some states’ regulations may be strict, with others have non-existent marijuana regulations. Such factors pose more complications to immunocompromised patients, such as cancer and HIV/AIDS. Also, there is a need to assess the concentration of crude marijuana, which is more than 60 active cannabinoids and is understudied (Dryburgh et al., 2018)HIV And STI Testing During Pregnancy Assignment Discussion. The reason for such concern is that most marijuana growers tend to breed their plants in a mid to alter different chemical compounds concentration.

An example is the tetrahydrocannabinol concentration, known for its psychoactive ingredients is said to have been over 20-fold compared to over several decades of marijuana products. Such realizations prove that if medical scholars and researchers do not engage in vigorous clinical trials, it will be hard to acknowledge the most appropriate cannabinoids combinations that may be deleterious or more effective for therapy (Dryburgh et al., 2018). That is because while the marijuana dispensaries continue experimenting with different cannabinoids breeding to increase tetrahydrocannabinol potency, there is a high chance of exposing the patients to long-lasting and unanticipated negative effects, thus affecting patients’ outcomes negatively (Dryburgh et al., 2018). Hence, despite the therapeutic marijuana having economic benefits to the states, the state should reconsider marijuana’s long-term effects by evaluating the methods marijuana growers use, especially in determining the tetrahydrocannabinol concentration HIV And STI Testing During Pregnancy Assignment Discussion.
