Data management in healthcare is essential as it supports clinical decision-making that aims to improve patient outcomes, efficiency and staff performance. Healthcare facilities are incorporating health information systems to help manage, store and share patient information. In my clinical practice, I have encountered several healthcare information systems experiences. In particular, my recent experience was with the new implementation of electronic health records in my organization that would help manage patient information.

Electronic health records in healthcare are systems that digitally store patient medical information for easy management, retrieval and transmission. Additionally, it contains clinical and administrative details that management can use to make decisions that improve care and patient outcomes. With the c implementation of the EHRs in the organization, the transition has been difficult as many staff members are always resistant to change. Effective communication on why the organization needs the system was not done promptly. However, some staff, including myself, believe the system experience is positive as it has more benefits than drawbacks to the organization. The system has helped enhance patient care by improving diagnostics, medication and treatment plans. Implementing the system has also helped improve care coordination and interprofessional collaboration (Vos et al., 2020)Healthcare Informatics System Assignment. This is because patient data can easily be transmitted between providers, allowing them to provide correct medication and treatment plans. Additionally, medical errors have significantly reduced, thus enhancing patient outcomes.

The medical record exposure in school has significantly impacted my knowledge on data privacy and security. It is important that organizations safeguard patient information to prevent detrimental impacts for their health. Therefore, I know measures that safeguard data and can be applied in any setting.
