Parkinson’s disease is an age-related and progressive disease of brain cells. It affects movement, balance, and the control of muscles. The patient with a history of Parkinson’s disease who is on prescription drugs and complaining of a sore throat and headaches may be suffering from side effects of the drugs. Sinemet is a carbidopa used to treat symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, including stiffness of muscles, ineffective control of muscles, and muscle spasms. Its side effects are anxiety, lightheadedness, constipation, and fever (Rafferty et al., 2019). When considering health promotion activities for a patient with Parkinson’s disease, a healthcare worker should ensure that they are not stressful and intrusive. Parkinson’s disease affects many aspects of an individual’s life. Healthy eating, sufficient rest, and physical therapy are some of the health promotion activities for a patient with Parkinson’s disease.
According to Marras et al. Foundation (2019)Evaluating Parkinson Disease Assignment Paper, the disease can be managed through enhancement of emotional wellbeing, social interaction with family and friends, and physical activities that make them more proactive in promoting the quality of life. The physical activities should focus on safety and quality of movement. To evaluate if the disease is well controlled, healthcare providers will engage the patient and ask about the signs and symptoms they are experiencing (Tension et al., 2020). A physical and neurological examination will also be necessary to ensure the disease is well managed. Magnetic resonance imaging and DaTscan can be used to examine the structure of the brain and detect the dopamine function in the brain, respectively. For Parkinson’s disease, there are beer criteria considerations. It is not advised to use anti-parkinsonian medications to prevent extrapyramidal symptoms.
