Assessing a Healthcare Program/Policy Evaluation

Healthcare Program/Policy Evaluation

Healthcare education

Description Quality of habits and social surroundings have a great effect on quality of health. Most health conditions can be avoided by practicing healthier routines. The program aim was to increase awareness on the good habits that improve our health and the bad ones that depreciate our health. Regular school education and health advertisements are not relaying information effectively. The program’s goal is to educate entirely on quality healthcare without financial or educational gains. The topics tackled in the program are communicable diseases, preventive measures, health interventions, health systems, physical exercise, drugs and substance abuse, diet choices, and general diseases and conditions (Paterick, et al, 2017).
How was the success of the program or policy measured?

The program’s success was measured against: Patient and community health awareness, the basic improvement in health quality, reports of self-care related conditions, ability of patients to rely on out-patient interventions, ability of patients to provide dependable health information, confirmed communicable diseases cases, patients’ adherence to follow-up visits, and statistics of preventable conditions.
How many people were reached by the program or policy selected? How much of an impact was realized with the program or policy selected?

The program effected change on a projection of 120,000 people visiting the hospital and within the community.

It impacted general improvement of the community’s health. It also increased the patient’s and public physical exercising. The program impacted the public’s maintenance of safe environment. There was notable reduction of communicable diseases and diseases resulting from self-care. The nurses and staff in the community reported easy patient care due to patient dependable information. Patients reported for follow-up visits even with eradication of symptoms. There was reported adherence to out-patient nursing interventions (Paterick, et al, 2017).

At what point in program implementation was the program or policy evaluation conducted? The program was evaluated after two years of implementation. Education needs to be regular to gain the required results. The program was given time to make its impact for effective evaluation. After two years data was collected between the end of the first year of program implementation and the end of the second year (Paterick, et al, 2017).
What data was used to conduct the program or policy evaluation?

Data was collected on every projected impact. Statistical data included:

The total medical cases reported, reported cases that did not require medical intervention, total number of cases resulting from communicable diseases, total cases that were a result of poor self-care, and the total number of patients who adhered to follow-ups.

Qualitative data was collected through questionnaire and observation on:

Patients’ adherence to instructions, patient’s knowledge of self-healthcare, and practice of physical exercises and healthy nutritional habits (Paterick, et al, 2017).

All the data was referenced against the past clinical data and available information.

What specific information on unintended consequences were identified? The program might have had the unintended intention on patients seeking clinical healthcare. The healthcare education was supposed to reduce the hospital attendance. However, the program increased the public’s awareness to seeking medical intervention and treatment. The number of cases for reported cases increased especially for mild conditions (Yen, et al, 2019).
What stakeholders were identified in the evaluation of the program or policy? Who would benefit most from the results and reporting of the program or policy evaluation? Be specific and provide examples. The stakeholders identified in the program are patients, nurses, doctors, and the general public in the community. A health improvement through education is meant benefit the public and ease the clinic’s workload.

The community in inclusion of the patients are the program’s most beneficiaries. An increase in self-care and adherence to health habits is projected from individual health quality improvement (Paterick, et al, 2017)Assessing a Healthcare Program Essay Assignment.

Did the program or policy meet the original intent and objectives? Why or why not?

Reference against its objectives, the program met its intent to a certain degree. There still remains room for improvement (Emanuel, 2020). The goal was always to create healthcare awareness. The expectation was that with the information, people in the community would make better health decisions. The outcome was positive according to the following findings from the collected data:

There was an increased activity of physical exercise and diet change

A decreases in the number of communicable diseases per year

An increase in patient follow-up visits. Patient information during assessment also indicated an increase in health awareness.

The patients submitted willingness to continue learning on the seminars and hospital sessions.

The doctors and nurses submitted positive results and offered to continue educating the community.

The awareness might have impacted increase in seeking medical intervention for mild cases. Patients were more worried about underlying health conditions. It was complicated to separate alertness for diseases and awareness of body changes. The program good not impact the community’s drug and substance abuse issue. The data collected on the issue was inconclusive compared to any existing record.

Most of the programs failure were due to its scope. Healthcare education generalized all the aspects of healthcare. The best way might have been specialization. This would require identifying the greatest contributing factor of health and tackling it as the major docket (Emanuel, 2020)Assessing a Healthcare Program Essay Assignment.

The target group was also general. The individual issue had to be directed to the specific stakeholders. The drug and substance education failed since the information offered was to the people who were not affected.

Would you recommend implementing this program or policy in your place of work? Why or why not? I would recommend implementing this program in my work place. The major social determinant of health conditions is lack of education. The information available to the public is either highly inflated or incorrect (Emanuel, 2020). Implementing this program would only need shifting its focus to the major contributing issue. The impact might be slow but as a tradition, the program might improve the work place effectively.

Identify at least two ways that you, as a nurse advocate, could become involved in evaluating a program or policy after one year of implementation. Nurses assume the role of more than just patient care. They can also advocate for a program or be involved in its evaluation.

One way to be involved is by readily offering information during the evaluation. They can answer questionnaires on their observations during and after implementation of the program. This information helps the evaluating team make well-informed decision (Emanuel, 2020).

Nurses can also offer suggestions of program improvement. The program might have unexpected dynamics in application. Nurses can offer informed advice on the improvisations that can be made (Yen, et al, 2019)Assessing a Healthcare Program Essay Assignment.

General Notes/Comments The program was successful due to the improvement of healthcare in the community. It also eased the work for nurses and doctors (Paterick, et al, 2017).

The program was not all successful due to increased medical cases and lack of impact on drug and substance abuse. Education focused on these factors and their specific stakeholders might improve that healthcare sector.
