Plagiarism is an aspect of academic integrity that is concerned with giving credit to the original source of information and idea. In fact, plagiarism can be perceived as passing on the work of others as one’s own without acknowledging the original source of the information. In addition, it involves referencing a source of information without properly crediting that source. Preventing plagiarism involves giving credit for facts, opinions, graphics, illustration, theories, words and ideas from other sources (Rettinger & Gallant, 2022).

There are different example of plagiarism in academic work. First, accidental plagiarism that occurs when a writer forgets to cite work, does not cite the source correctly, and fails to put quotation marks around the cited material. Second, self-plagiarism in which a writer uses content from a previously written paper but fails to properly cite the source. Third, direct plagiarism in which words are picked from a source without properly citing the source (Rettinger & Gallant, 2022)Aspect Of Academic Integrity Assignment Paper.

While plagiarism focuses on acts of academic misconduct and dishonesty, it cannot be divorced from academic integrity, which is concerned with committing to the fundamental values of courage, responsibility, respect, fairness, trust and honesty as principles in academic work. Put simply, presenting the work of another person as one’s own is dishonest and a form of lying (Lancaster, 2020).

Plagiarism causes serious damage to academic and/or professional reputation as it reflects ethical offense by a student, and career offense by a professional. In addition, it can bring to a halt an academic career as persons whose reputation is damaged are likely to lose the ability to publish. Besides that, it has legal repercussions as it violates copyright laws. Furthermore, it has monetary repercussions as an individual found guilty of plagiarism could be required to pay monetary restitution. Moreover, it can have serious effect on human life when plagiarism occurs in medical research (Eaton, 2021)Aspect Of Academic Integrity Assignment Paper.

Two sources will be useful in ensuring academic integrity of work. First, library services are useful in accessing current scholarly resources, and understanding how to properly cite and reference sources. Second, text-matching software, such as Grammarly and Turnitin, are useful for identifying plagiarism and making suggestions on how to avoid plagiarism (Eaton, 2021).
