Procedural Sedation Application For The Children And Adults In The Emergency

Response to Taylor

I agree with Taylor about his experiences with the module. For instance, similar to my case he does not work in the emergency setting hence the module provides informative knowledge and skills regarding PSA application for the children and adults in the emergency setting. Inpatients are also faced with the need for sedation and in most cases, procedures done at the bedside are undertaken including chest tube replacement. However, in my case, I have an experience with lumbar puncture sedation and in this case, Md uses lidocaine, and local anesthesia when patients are awake (Benzoni, 2022)Procedural Sedation Application For The Children And Adults In The Emergency.

It is crucial that the respondents gave detail about the differences that exist between the emergency setting and the unit of operation. For instance, there is a need to ensure patients are able to practice on nothing by mouth (NPO) before any form of PSA is undertaken. The response provides the reason for this factor and the need for aspiration prevention for patients who are more at risk.

Question 1

The module has been informative in providing more knowledge about procedures used in carrying out sedatives, analgesics, and other equipment used for non-invasive monitoring. These procedures are critical in reducing the extent of discomfort, unpleasant memories, and apprehension that is brought about by these medical procedures and enhances better performances. I learned a lot of skills in using this procedure even though I have never worked in an emergency room (ER) department. An important experience at the bedside of my patients was the sedation procedures including the witness to lumbar puncture tests (PAMI, 2017)Procedural Sedation Application For The Children And Adults In The Emergency. The tests were used in collecting the cerebrospinal fluid for use in laboratory tests. The experience was vital in my practice as I witnessed crucial steps involved in this process where a patient was given sedative medications to make them relaxed and drowsy during the test. For instance, I have experience in dissociative sedation where patients are left with no unpleasant memories and feels no pain, and cooperates well with suggestions and commands being given. In particular, the Ramsay sedation scale was important in providing patients’ sedation information in categories such as from coma to severe agitation (Deol, 2019).

Question 2

The content in this module that has made the most impact regarding pain management is the risk and benefit considerations. This is because I realized that different patients require different levels of sedation for the best outcomes. For instance, some require moderate sedation due to anxiety/scare (PAMI, 2017)Procedural Sedation Application For The Children And Adults In The Emergency. In addition, patients that have cases of comorbid medical conditions possess increased risks of adverse events due to sedation. Also, there is no specified age through which procedural sedation cannot be carried out. However, infants and the elderly possess higher rates of adverse events because of the increased sensitivity to drug interactions, pharmacokinetic differences, and increased sensitivity to sedative medications (Deol, 2019). Though I never worked in ER I can effectively advise patients about PSA that best suits them.

First page write: answer question 1 & 2

  1. How will you use the knowledge you have gained from this module to improve your patient’s pain management in various settings to improve their pain outcomes?

This module is formative info…I learn a lot from this module although I did not work in ER. On my department, I witness with lumbar puncture at bedside for my pts. I learn more about dissociative sedation. Using Ramsay sedation scale..
