Front-line clinicians in many healthcare systems benefit from quality improvement projects. The participants gain opportunities to get involved in leading and delivering change to improve patient care and transform the complexity in a healthcare setting (Backhouse & Ogunlayi, 2020)The Quality Improvement Initiative Discussion. Therefore, during my learning program, I decided to join and become a member of the quality improvement committee for an initiative to improve electronic health documentation in my community health center.

The current quality improvement initiative that the committee is piloting involves improving electronic medical record documentation. Through the nurse’s help, the committee established that there was a recent malicious attempt to access patient information. A breach of patient information risk the patient’s health and the overall reputation of the facility. The nurse informaticists recommended using encryption and decryption codes to safeguard patient information (Kruse et al., 2017). The quality improvement initiative involves integrating safety precautions into the systems to ensure the privacy and confidentiality of patient information. The members involved in the initiative are the nurse leaders, nurse informaticists, and some nurse representatives. Therefore, by participating in this activity, I will gain skills in using EHRs that help reduces medication errors, ensure information privacy and improve outcomes The Quality Improvement Initiative Discussion.

My involvement in this initiative provides me with an opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge required to use EHRs effectively. Additionally, I will learn how to decode data to make meaningful use that can be used in treatment approaches for patients. In addition, to become a good nurse, I must understand patient medical information on record to provide quality care. The scholarly activity addresses technical competencies vital for every nurse in practice.
