AONL Nurse Executive Competencies Discussion
Considering the nurse competencies captured in the AONL website, my greatest strengths lie on professionalism, knowledge of healthcare environment, and leadership competencies. However, I still need to work on communication and relationship building competency, business skills competency, and a bit of professionalism competency. My biggest challenge within the professionalism competency is time management. I often second guess my decisions by taking longer to respond to a situation. Besides, I understand that reacting quickly, especially when there’s an emergency, is an important nursing skill (Gonzalez-Garcia, 2021)AONL Nurse Executive Competencies Discussion.

Consequently, I have little experience communicating with patients, especially the elderly. According to (Relf et al., 2018), communication and relationship building competencies enables nurses to deliver person centered care. It involves building healthy and strong relationships with colleagues and patients over a period of time. As such, good communication should be among my top priorities.
Importantly, dealing with job demands such as managing finance and patient database are a bit challenging to me. Since I have identified my weaknesses within the AONL competencies and discussed their impact within the healthcare setting, I plan to integrate the knowledge I acquired and use it to develop my comprehensive practicum project through observation and experiential learning. I’m going to volunteer at my local nursing home where I’ll spend more time with competent nurses and patients and observe how they operate.
