The different age stages are marked by physical, physiological, emotional and psychological transitions. Each stage has distinct healthcare needs that increase individual interaction with the healthcare system. However, the varying health care needs across the life stages lead to different experiences, care and exposure to other conditions. The frequency of health care systems increases with old age. This paper highlights interview feedback underlining the patient’s perspective on the impact of the life stages on healthcare. I will interview a 74-year-old uncle to share insight on her experiences in her interaction with the health care system The Stages Of Life And Health Care Assignment Paper.
The transition in the health care demands is also linked to the change in decision-making regarding interaction with the healthcare system. According to Franceschi et al. (2018), their healthcare needs increase as people age. This implies that the older population have more frequent interactions with the healthcare system than the younger population. The deterioration of the physiological functions and the decline in the immune system result in conditions that require health care attention (Akha, 2018). The health perception across the stages varies with the older population exhibiting increased health-conscious reflecting in increased participation in health care. Children may be unaware of their health status, while young adults may be keen on delivering health care but show limited concern. The older population can reflect on the health care delivery and provide a good account of the influence of age on healthcare The Stages Of Life And Health Care Assignment Paper.
I interviewed a 74-year-old male, my friend’s uncle, who had been hospitalized for 14 days from the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease on 12th July 2022. Mr. M was willing to share his lived experience with the interaction with the health care system, as noted in the interview script below. I used open-ended interview questions to obtain a deep insight into the patient’s link between age and interaction with the health care system.
Me: Good afternoon, Mr. M. Thank you for your time. I want to ask you a few questions about your lived experiences interacting with the health care system. The Stages Of Life And Health Care Assignment Paper
Mr. T.: The pleasure is mine.
Me: Do you feel that your life stage affected your interaction with health care professionals?
Mr. M.: The care delivery process is more specific in the older population than in other life stages. Over the years, I have noted significant emphasis on older population care over the years, as reflected in my last hospitalization. I think the nurses paid keen attention to care needs due to my age.
Me: Which areas of the hospital or clinic were most concerned with your well-being and feelings?
Mr. M.: I was diagnosed with the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease during my last hospitalization. My care provider and nurses were very close to me, assisting in the tests and encouraging me throughout my stay. Besides, I think the nurses are well equipped to handle diverse patient needs. The nurses were very friendly and caring in the wards. In this case, the nurses were the most concerned with my well-being and feelings.
Me: Was your family with you during this hospital stay or outpatient visit? The Stages Of Life And Health Care Assignment Paper
Yes. Our family works together in most events and stands together, especially in diseases and suffering. I have two sons and one daughter. Their mother passed on a few years ago. My sons alternately spend time with me, and the daughter can visit daily.
Me: I’m so sorry for the loss of your wife. Was your family included in your treatment, such as post-procedure instructions?
Absolutely! My family was involved in key decision-making. I can say the modern health care system practices are more patient-centred than the years back. The practitioners consulted my family and engaged them in key decision-making.
Me: Thank you very much, Mr. T for the interaction and the valuable insights into the age-related interactions with the health care system.
The interview justifies the impact of life stages in interacting with the health care system. The interview feedback indicates a significant disparity in care attention based on life stages. However, healthcare practitioners should provide full attention to patients regardless of their life stages.
