My fellow nurses, cholera is a communicable disease though the fecal oral route. Guyett at el. 2020 demonstrate both symptomatic and asymptomatic patient are capable of transmitting the bacteria through the stool to the environment where it converts to another non- infectious form and only infectious form upon re-introduction to human body, WASH guidelines recommend; safe and clean water for human consumption through filtration or chlorination, proper hand hygiene, proper food handling and cooking practice as means of reducing the transmission. Scientific proven interventions for effective cholera control and response to epidemics focuses on case-centered approaches within-household transmission and community-level transmission that is more focused on preventing contamination of the environment by cases or recurrent outbreaks.
