Ethical issues in nursing are essential since they govern how the person or a group of individuals behave, focusing on effective decision-making in the patient’s care. According to Adams et al. (2019), some of the most everyday ethical issues in practice include autonomy, confidentiality, beneficence, and justice. The principle of justice directs the nurse on the need to treat all the patients equally regardless of their socioeconomic status and background. The ethical principles help keep the nurse liable and prompt them to provide the most efficient quality of care to the patient without compromising their career. The legal processes, for example, the mandatory reporting following an incident at the hospital, for example, medication errors, help ensure patient safety. The nurse’s knowledge, skill, and registration level provide the framework for the nurse to practice as expected. Ensuring the patient safety is the nurse’s responsibility and is usually tied up with legislation and law Veterans Health Administration Discussion Paper.
The Veterans are encountering numerous challenges in their bid to access the healthcare services. In response to their increased concerns, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), enacted the Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act, which was meant to help them address the issue regarding their access to healthcare services. After the enactment of the law, the debate among the lawmakers advocated that the families of the veterans be involved in various benefits, for instance, be offered compensations payments for disabilities or death-related military services and also home loan guarantees (Panangala & Sussman,2019). The Veterans Administration in the USA is an agency of the federal government; initially, the veterans were not getting access to safe working conditions and also access to healthcare services based on their health needs, but with the enactment of the law in 2019 Veterans Health Administration Discussion Paper, there has been a change. The Veterans Administration has recently ensured prompt attendance of the Veteran’s care needs through building various healthcare facilities and enhancing transparency in care accessibility.
The primary role of the Veterans Health Administration is to ensure that all the Veterans get access to healthcare and conduct biomedical research on their benefits. One of the state policies in the USA that Donald Trump signed is the Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act, which was aimed at expediting the appeals of disciplinary action against the VA employees who were exhibiting poor misconduct and performance at the workplace (Scott.,2021). In 2019, the same law was reinforced to ensure inclusivity in cases where the veterans did not get access to the care they deserved. The veteran administration is also catering to the needs of the Veteran’s employees by ensuring that they see non-VA doctors if they live miles away from the VA facilities. The program extension and Improvement Act also changed a provision of the program to cover both the private Co-pays and deductibles directly rather than through patients’ reimbursements.
In my opinion, I do advocate for the privatization of the VA healthcare delivery system. This is because, with the current Veterans Choice program, they have the option to receive the care they deserve at the private facilities rather than waiting in long lines in the government VA facility. Suppose the entire Veterans Healthcare is privatized. In that case, there will be more efficient service services, and the availability at the centers will be more susceptible since they would have access to many medical practitioners. One disadvantage of this system is that it would result in an increased expenditure from the customer, which might result in an increased financial burden Veterans Health Administration Discussion Paper.
