Arguably, there is power in testimony. Adversities in our lives not only produce shame on a massive level but also mounts psychological and emotional barriers that curtail our connections with others. According to the study Ussher et al (2018), individuals should be encouraged to share both adversities and awesome acts in their lives. Minority groups face numerous challenges, including negative social determinants for health that leads to adverse health outcomes. For instance, multiple studies have concluded that the white populations have access to quality healthcare compared to their black and Hispanic counterparts. Such a discriminative environment that heightens the feelings of sadness, hopelessness and worthlessness, coupled with peer pressure, nudged me into depression, a phenomenon that had a big toll on my life. Due to fear of judgment and criticism, I kept the issue to myself for an epic period. I abhorred family and friends and egregious lost interests in hobbies and what I previously found pleasure in. Nevertheless, God had been graceful. He gave me grace and strength to share my testimony –a move that changed my life positively as I was able to get help and insights that significantly improved my situation (Ussher,2018)The Power Of Testimony Discussion Paper.

My move is in tandem with the teachings of psalms 145:4-7 that encourages us to share. I find the verse interesting due to several ways. Apart from teaching us to be grateful for what God has done in our lives, the verse encourages us to spread God’s greatness to others to create and perpetuate hope in their lives. Moreover, the verse gives me the perfect opportunity to worship God since singing praises is one of the primary forms of worshipping (Ussher,2018)The Power Of Testimony Discussion Paper.

Psalm 145 is a beautiful song of God’s majesty and love.

Psalm 145:4-7, “One generation shall praise Your works to another,
And shall declare Your mighty acts.
5 I[a] will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty,
And on Your wondrous works.[b]
6 Men shall speak of the might of Your awesome acts,
And I will declare Your greatness.
7 They shall utter the memory of Your great goodness,
And shall sing of Your righteousness.”
