Upon searching the literature using the key words from their PICOT question, the nurses discover a handful of articles that address their clinical inquiry. In order to decide whether the articles should be included in their body of evidence, they must critically appraise them. The first article they choose to appraise is Fraser, J. The researcher has used phenomenological qualitative study design because he uses the nurse’s experiences to describe the perception of patients of drugs. Critically Appraising Qualitative Data

The authenticity of a research paper is determined by the title, keywords, authors, abstract, problem and research question, literature, sampling, theoretical framework, methodology, and data collection method. The problem of the study should have a specific research question t justify the purpose of the study. The literature review should be summarized and linked to the study to give a balanced view of what is written on the subject. The theoretical frameworks help in understanding the investigated topic. It provides a rationale and develops the research question or statement. These are identified in the research by Frasier et al 2007 because it has a research question with a theoretical framework, methodology, and keywords. However, there is no literature review or sampling method provided by the researcher. The research is good because of the author’s credentials. The study method and study findings are credible. The setting of the research reflects the context of the research topic and study method. The interviews were done with neonatal nurses taking care of children abandoned by mothers who are drug addicts. A good research paper should have ethical considerations and approval from the relevant participants. In this study, the author has no proof of seeking consent from the participants. Additionally, there is no proof of good ethical practice while carrying out the study. Trustworthiness Of The Article

Trustworthiness is the ability of the researcher to establish study findings as credible, transferable, and confirmable. Trustworthiness helps other people to utilize it to form a public policy, and use it to guide individual choice, and community action. The article by Frasier is not credible, confirmable, and transferable because there was no systemic explanation of data analysis that derived the results or the conclusion of the study.
