My strength with professional presentations is my ability to engage with the audience. I can make eye contact, smile, and use gestures to keep the audience interested. Deb, Dey & Balas (2019) highlight the need to make sustained eye contact to help provide feedback and determine whether the audience needs more explanation. My weakness is that I sometimes ramble and get sidetracked. The major causes of distractions and confusion during my presentation are associated with trouble organizing my thoughts, especially when responding to questions. I need to practice more effective ways of communicating my findings. One method for improvement is to practice giving presentations outside the lab setting. This will help me develop better speaking skills and increase my confidence when speaking in front of a large audience. Vogel & Viale (2018) recommended that the presenter should know the topic well to avoid panicking during the actual presentation. Practicing outside the conference or meeting setting will improve my ability to generate new ideas and avoid rambling in subsequent presentations. I need to work on my presentation skills and share my project details and ideas with an audience more effectively in a formal context. I need to focus on how crucial it is to have mental self-control when presenting. I will be able to build excellent presentation skills that will enable me to express my study findings clearly. Thus, I need to be able to present my findings in a formal setting. If I can effectively communicate my findings in a formal setting, it will give me credibility and make me more likely to present effectively during future projects. This is something that I need to work on to improve my skills.
