Interview Guidelines

Interviews can take place in-person, by phone, or by Skype.

Develop interview questions to gather information about the role of the provider in the community and the health issues faced by the chosen community.

Complete the “Provider Interview Acknowledgement Form” prior to conducting the interview. Submit this document separately in its respective drop box.

Compile key findings from the interview, including the interview questions used, and submit these with the presentation.

Create a PowerPoint presentation of 15-20 slides (slide count does not include title and references slide) describing the chosen community interest.

Include the following in your presentation:

Description of community and community boundaries: the people and the geographic, geopolitical, financial, educational level; ethnic and phenomenological features of the community, as well as types of social interactions; common goals and interests; and barriers, and challenges, including any identified social determinates of health. According to Fryday et al. (2021), Petersburg, Alaska, has a population of 3,356 people. Petersburg is in Petersburg Borough and ranks among Alaska’s most desirable places to live. Petersburg housing community with a sparse suburban vibe, and the majority of the population own their homes. There are numerous coffee shops and bars in Petersburg. Petersburg is home to several households and young professionals. Petersburg’s public schools are highly regarded.

Fryday et al. (2021) indicate that Petersburg Borough, Alaska encompasses an estimated square mile of about 3,829, in which 2,921 square miles is covered by land whereas the rest(908 square miles) is covered by water. The community has small lakes, land and creeks and the people living in this community are of all races. The community is ranked 21st most populated community out of 30 communities in Alaska state.

According to Naylor et al. (2021), Petersburg, Alaska has a liberal political atmosphere. Petersburg Census Area County, Alaska has a liberal lean. In the 2016 presidential election, 49.4percent of individuals in Petersburg Census Area County, Alaska voted Democrat, 47.0percent voted Republican, and 3.6percent voted Independent. After voting Conservative for republicans in 2016, 2008, and 2004, Petersburg Borough ended up voting Democratic in the most recently held presidential election. The community is also in an urban location and is comprised of families and young professionals.

In Petersburg Borough, 37.1 percent have Bachelor’s degree or higher, 31.2perecent have some collage or associate degrees, 24.4% have high school or GED, 6.2% Less than high school, while 1.1% No schooling. The area has several higher learning institutions like San Joaquin Valley College and Everest College.

Petersburg Borough community is well known for its public art (arts and exhibits). The local creations are present at all galleries of the city, library, and the museums. Members of the community are allowed to view and purchase the local arts. The community uses the public art as a source of tourist attraction and source of income.

Inhabitants in the community enjoy recreational time and leisure activities, so there are numerous parks and leisure activities available to them. The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is an organization that focuses on rehabilitating, building, preserving, and operating rentals for the needy members of the peterburg community (Chashchin, et al., 2020). In addition to the Health Resources and Services Administration, the Petersburg community benefits from a certain percentage of property taxes belonging to the counties (Chashchin, et al., 2020).

A detailed interview with the community health provider revealed that the high cost of living and poverty levels in the community had forced most of the community members to live unhealthy lives, from poor diets to poor health services. The interview results also show that many community members wish to live better but have no such ability and lacks knowledge on healthy lifestyles. However, few community health nurses educate these community members on life-changing techniques such as healthy feeding (Chashchin, et al., 2020)Community Assessment And Analysis Paper.

Majority of Petersburg community members are either obese or diabetic, two major health issues facing not only this community but also other communities in the united states. Of the two, obesity is the worst, occupying about 30% of the community members (Mosavel et al., 2019). This raises the alarm, which the government must undertake with seriousness and encourage members of the public to lead healthy lifestyles including regular exercises. People should also be made aware of the healthy diets.

Educating community members on the importance of running/jogging, lifting weights, and doing pushups is essential (Mosavel et al., 2019)Community Assessment And Analysis Paper. People should also be educated on obesity, how it develops, its risk factors, and how to avoid it. As the community members compete in the tournament, they get the time to exercise.

As a result of high number of obese and diabetic community members, it was found that the number of primary health physician visitations is high despite the high percentage of health coverage reported (Mosavel et al., 2019). The obesity rate was found to be higher in adults as compared to children. The common issues were diabetes and obesity, which can be prevented through education members of the public.
