The high cost of healthcare services is a major issue for many individuals and families in the US. The cost of medical care has been steadily increasing over the past decade, leaving many without access to the care they need (Dickman, Himmelstein & Woolhandler, 2017)The High Cost of Healthcare Assignnment Discussion. The rising costs are due to increasing insurance premiums, out-of-pocket costs, and the cost of prescription drugs. Brot-Goldberg et al. (2017) have mentioned that the high cost of healthcare services has been a huge barrier to access for those who are uninsured or underinsured.
The high cost of healthcare services significantly impacts my work setting, as it has led to a decrease in the number of patients seeking care. This is because many individuals and families are unable to afford the cost of care, leading them not to seek care at all. This has then led to an increase in preventable illnesses, leading to an increase in the number of individuals in need of care. In addition, the high cost of care has led to increased medical debt, leading to stress and anxiety for patients. This has, in turn, triggered an increase in the amount of time spent with each patient due to the need to discuss financial issues or payment plans. The High Cost of Healthcare Assignnment Discussion
My health system work setting has responded to the issue of the high cost of healthcare services by offering financial assistance programs for those in need. These programs include discounts for certain services, special payment plans, and waivers for certain medications. In addition, our health system also offers financial counseling services to help patients understand and manage their medical finances. Furthermore, the health system also partners with local organizations to provide resources for those who are uninsured or underinsured. These organizations provide assistance with obtaining health coverage, finding affordable care, and accessing other resources that can help reduce the cost of care.
