Your understanding of the thesis of the text

After reading the book “Anxious Presence by Mark Sayers,” I realized that it is focused on renewal offered by the leaders and church to awaken the entire church and ensure that the people’s culture changes for Christ. I understand that individuals and organizations might plan, implement, and thrive with their aspirations of a better society throughout the majority of recent history. The author indicates that management and planning can resolve and interrogate sensitive, complicated influences. However, a crisis is a terrific revealer. It throws people off their perches. It exposes the flaws in people’s approaches and exposes the idols and misconceptions. Unanticipated and messy waves have shattered people’s previous approaches. However, opportunity can be found amid difficult times. According to religious history, crisis always supersedes renewal, and the blueprint of restoration provides us with new paths forward (Sayers, 2022)A Non-Anxious Presence Assignment Paper.

Your opinion of the significance of the text

“Anxious Presence by Mark Sayers” is an excellent motivational book I would urge every Christian to read. The book’s text has a message that is helpful for leaders, church members, and any student studying Religion and Theology courses. This book was exceptionally knowledgeable about the broad cultural changes we are going through, primarily due to COVID. Any leader will indeed gain from carefully considering Sayer’s analysis and motivate to lead with a calm demeanor. This book is essential right now; it is the exact time to read it and the exact text the Christian community requires. This is a great starting point if one wants to make a distinction his/her leadership’s path forward. A Non-Anxious Presence Assignment Paper

Your present or future application goals from the text

My future goals from the text are to be a leader ready to undergo change and understand the congregation. I have also realized that as a future aspiring leader, I have to awaken the church and community to make sure that people’s culture changes for Christ. My goal is, therefore, to bring people together in Christ and make them realize that things can change even amidst a crisis. I also aim to change my community to be Christian-based and ensure that people serve the Lord from their hearts, not forcefully. From the text, my other goal is discipleship. According to Ho (2018), the goal of spiritual leadership is discipleship, which we have observed is the approach through which the Christian community develops. This process gradually tends to bring Christians from spiritual infancy to spiritual enlightenment, allowing them to repeat this procedure with others then A Non-Anxious Presence Assignment Paper.

Your evaluation of the strengths of the text

After reading the whole book by Mark Sayers, I can evaluate the strength of the text. The text is presented in an elaborate and easy-to-understand manner. The text is also shown in an understandable way with well-formed sentences. These coherent sentences have played a significant role in building the general concept of the text. Each sentence is related to the main idea, and the text has a structured form. The paragraphs developed in the text have their ideas growing logically and have topic sentences, making the text easily perceptible. According to Da Silva (2021), ensuring that all sentences are linked to the central idea is critical. Whenever the author deviates significantly from the basic theme, it becomes more difficult for the reader to return to the core theme.

Write out three quotes that were meaningful or provoked your thinking. Write one sentence for each quote that explains why it was meaningful to you

Quote 1: “In the past, movements were built slowly over time. Leaders would spend years building up a critical mass, pouring out blood, sweat, and tears, and eventually— a movement was formed with the mission and capacity to advance change. However, today we can create an event, gather a crowd, or amass an audience online quickly. Then, over time, like a flash mob dissipating, the promise slowly evaporates, leaving little changed. Yet what remains is the promise that we can find shortcuts to success without the pain of growth. The wilderness is filled with many mirages.” (Sayers, 2022, p. 114)A Non-Anxious Presence Assignment Paper.

Explanation: This quote is meaningful as it elaborates how the present churches may seem to be followed by large crowds and congregations; however, no growth may be experienced. The author indicates that churches concentrate on gaining followers rather than the impact and growth that people receive.

Quote 2: “A congregation may be physically present within their church, but their primary influence comes from the digital networks to which they are connected. These digital networks may be political, cultural, or theological” (Sayers, 2022, p. 95).

Explanation: This quote explains how digital networks affect the congregation’s understanding of the church. It states that people are in church physically, yet other networks influence them.

“The enemy that you faced yesterday, and for which you developed best practices to combat, can transform today, meaning that your best practices are now out of date and ineffective. As a result, you find yourself continually fighting the last war while losing the current one” (Sayers, 2022, p. 140)A Non-Anxious Presence Assignment Paper.

Explanation: This quote is essential as it educates one not to use the same tactics when solving a particular problem. The author indicates that people continually find themselves in some situations unknowingly due to their inappropriate tactics.
