Several hospitals and other care centers have made significant efforts to improve patient care by keeping their facilities up to date. I will look at how nurse turnover may be used to gauge care quality in nursing.

For each indicator, the NDNQI database indicates whether the organization achieved, failed, or surpassed the objectives and how those results relate to the national average (Lockhart, 2018). Since 1996, nursing-sensitive quality indicators have been implemented in order to accurately represent the aspects of clinical care that continue to be actively influenced by clinical practice. Using process indicators, nurses may evaluate their evaluation and care strategies. Additionally, a measure of nurse contentment with their work is included in the process indicators. Turnover rates for nurses range from 9 percent to 37 percent at present, depending on both location and specialty (Kaddourah et al., 2019). Keeping up with personnel ratios is difficult for hospital administrators due to high turnover rates. The loss of nursing personnel due to turnover is a major problem in hospitals and other medical centers. While it’s clear that this problem has the potential to negatively impact patient care, finding a workable remedy has proven to be challenging. This is because the need for RNs is forecast to increase at a faster pace than any other profession. Retirements are on the rise, making an already difficult job much more so. The high turnover rate may be attributed to a number of factors, such as inadequate training, a lack of personnel, an undesirable mix of patients, and unpredictable wages (Kaddourah et al., 2019)Informatics and Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators Assignment. Thus, the indicator has to be tracked so that measures may be taken to lessen the turnover rate of nurses and increase the level of care provided to patients.
Short-staffed hospitals, overburdened staff members, and exhausted nurses are all results of high turnover rates among nurses. These factors increase the likelihood that nurses may commit mistakes that endanger patients, such as prescription mistakes (Kaddourah et al., 2019). In order to avoid adding unnecessary stress to a client’s life or hospital stay, novice nurses should be conversant with the nurse turnover indicator. The information on the turnover rate of nurses in our institution is obtained from the human resource management system. Records on the proportion of workers who have departed from the building and their motives for doing so may be generated by the system. Additionally, the system may save the nurse’s credentials, training, and work history, all of which can be accessed quickly and easily. In order to make this information publicly available, our organization submits its yearly aggregated data to the NDNQI database. Nurses play an important part in ensuring reliable data collection and reliable outcomes. If nurses experience dissatisfaction or a lack of personnel, they should notify the administration. When there aren’t enough nurses to go around, those who are there have to work longer hours and are less attentive to patients. Furthermore, if the nurse is overworked, there is a higher chance that they will make a critical error, such as prescribing the wrong medication or failing to recognize a serious medical condition. A nurse who wishes to quit their position should do so in accordance with the institution’s policies and with sufficient notice to enable a search for a successor to be conducted. Providing such information demonstrates that the company meets or exceeds the criteria set out by applicable federal regulations. When the data is properly disseminated, it may also be used to advocate for nurses to improve their working conditions. As a result, it is imperative that healthcare institutions work toward eliminating the negative effects of nurse turnover on the quality of patient care.

As you begin to prepare this assessment you are encouraged to complete the Conabedian Quality Assessment Framework activity. Quality health care delivery requires systematic action. The American Nursing Association (ANA) established the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI®) in 1998 to track and report on quality indicators heavily influenced by nursing action.
NDNQI® was established as a standardized approach to evaluating nursing performance in relation to patient outcomes. It provides a database and quality measurement program to track clinical performance and to compare nursing quality measures against other hospital data at the national, regional, and state levels. Nursing-sensitive quality indicators help establish evidence-based practice guidelines in the inpatient and outpatient settings to enhance quality care outcomes and initiate quality improvement educational programs, outreach, and protocol development.
The quality indicators the NDNQI® monitors are organized into three categories: structure, process, and outcome. Theorist Avedis Donabedian first identified these categories. Donabedian’s theory of quality health care focused on the links between quality outcomes and the structures and processes of care (Grove et al., 2018).
Nurses must be knowledgeable about the indicators their workplaces monitor. Some nurses deliver direct patient care that leads to a monitored outcome. Other nurses may be involved in data collection and analysis. In addition, monitoring organizations, including managed care entities, exist to gather data from individual organizations to analyze overall industry quality. All of these roles are important to advance quality and safety outcomes.
The focus of Assessment 4 is on how informatics support monitoring of nursing-sensitive quality indicator data. You will develop an 8–10 minute audio (or video) training module to orient new nurses in a workplace to a single nursing-sensitive quality indicator critical to the organization. Your recording will address how data are collected and disseminated across the organization along with the nurses’ role in supporting accurate reporting and high quality results.
