The Mental Health Program Assignment Paper

Assignment: Interview

Interview Question 1: Tell us about a healthcare program, within your practice. What are the costs and projected outcomes of this program?

Interview Response: The practice has a mental health program that is conducted under its social responsibility umbrella. This is a voluntary program that brings together the organization and personnel to serve the community. The organization donates resources while the personnel donate their time to provide outreach mental healthcare services to the underprivileged and vulnerable members of the community. Presented as a free-service camp that is conducted periodically, the program is managed by the organization while in partnership with other organizations who support its agenda and are willing to make contributions. The annual project budget is approximately $35,000, all sourced from grants and donations. The budget is spent on getting equipment and materials for the program, as well as paying allocations for the program’s management staff. The program focuses on improving mental health outcomes within the community through improving community knowledge and awareness about mental health concerns, providing healthcare services including screening, diagnosis and treatment, and facilitating prevention efforts. The program has been running for two years, during which time it has improved mental health awareness and outcomes for the community members. These positive outcomes have been notable among the community members facing financial difficulties in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic, especially as these difficulties preclude them from accessing or paying for mental health services (Patel & Thute, 2022)The Mental Health Program Assignment Paper.

Interview Question 2: Who is your target population?

Interview Response: The program targets the whole community, noting that mental health concerns have bloomed in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic. Over the last four years, Covid-19 has caused havoc among our communities, especially in terms of finances as it caused deaths from infection, many industries to close, people to lose their jobs and incomes, and interrupted social life within communities. It continues to be a present threat to the communities. Although many organizations serving communities become aware of Covid-19 effects on mental health early on and even provided support, their efforts are far from enough as communities report increased incidences of mental health concerns including symptoms of stress, distress, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and anxiety. The program seeks to fill this gap by offering mental healthcare services (Maffly-Kipp et al., 2021)The Mental Health Program Assignment Paper.

Interview Question 3: What is the role of the nurse in providing input for the design of this healthcare program? Can you provide examples?

Interview Response: The nurse has a role in providing input to the program design. As an expert on healthcare delivery and the needs of the community members, the nurse provides input on the type of services that the program should offer, the most effective program delivery methods, and strategies for ensuring the program is accessible and effective. This role involves the nurse acting as an advocate for the population to share their experiences and perspectives while identifying any barriers and difficulties that would hinder the program especially in terms of access. In addition, the nurse participates in the program design by engaging in community outreach and education activities to raise awareness about the program. Overall, the nurse leverages clinical knowledge and experience in the program design to ensure effective delivery (Zeydani et al., 2023).

Interview Question 4: What is your role as an advocate for your target population for this healthcare program? Do you have input into design decisions? How else do you impact design?

Interview Response: As an advocate of the target population for the healthcare program, my role focuses on ensuring that the program design has activities that engage the community members and deliver on the program objectives. This mainly revolves around identifying forums in which to engage the community members. For instance, approaching and engaging the community members in schools and community halls to conduct mental health awareness and education activities. The input provided as an advocate helps ensure that program reaches a large population that is receptive, thereby improving outcomes (Milstead & Short, 2019)The Mental Health Program Assignment Paper.

Interview Question 5: What is the role of the nurse in healthcare program implementation? How does this role vary between design and implementation of healthcare programs? Can you provide examples?

Interview Response: The nurse has a role in the healthcare program implementation. The role may include leading the program, providing education and training to other program participants, collaborating with other implementations, communicating with the stakeholders, tailoring the program features for a specific population, and providing feedback that helps in the program development and improvement (Sudo et al., 2023).

Interview Question 6: Who are the members of a healthcare team that you believe are most needed to implement a program? Can you explain why?

Interview Response: A program requires four members of a healthcare team to implement. First, a mental healthcare provider who is responsible for healthcare services provision and coordination, especially in evaluating the patients and providing the required care. Second, a social worker who serves an educational, informational, and supportive role. The social worker may identify and coordinate access to community resources, including housing, food, employment opportunities, support structures and financial resources. Third, a dietician/nutrition who helps in designing a healthy lifestyle and feeding plan. Fourth, a liaison who has a good understanding of the available healthcare services and resources, and coordinates the efforts of the different stakeholders within the program to ensure that core features are not ignored and there are not redundancies or duplications. The liaison may also coordinate the efforts of the volunteers (Garcia-Dia, 2019)The Mental Health Program Assignment Paper.
