Nurse Leader Interview Assignment – Interview Questions – Jandy Bon Marcos

  1. What is your role as a health care team member?
  • As an RN Supervisor, my role is to make sure that the nursing staff is appropriately doing what they are supposed to do. Currently, we are facing nursing shortage so the nurse to patient ratio in skilled nursing facility was increased which increases the workload our workload. If I’m not busy or if I tend to finish early, I offer help to a nurse who are behind or whoever needed help. We do help each other in the floor to make sure no one is behind and make sure the shift runs smoothly as possible. Another role for me is that sometimes the nurses come to me for questions or clarifications regarding certain topics. Sometimes I know the answer but sometimes I don’t. Nursing is a life-long learning process. Being said that, I try to educate myself regarding nursing topics that I don’t know or know little about so that in the future I can share the knowledge I gain to my colleagues Nurse Leader Interview Assignment

  1. How do you define professionalism and how does professional responsibility influence your work?
  • Professionalism to me are group of traits or characteristics that an individual must have in order to maintain proper conduct in a certain environmental setting. In the health care setting, a nurse must be respectful, empathetic, have positive work ethic, accountable, and have good communication skills. The nurse must utilize all these traits in order to maintain professionalism in the work place.
  • Professionalism does positively impact my nursing practice. Maintaining professionalism can decrease conflict toward patients, their family members, and to my colleagues. It also creates an atmosphere where the environment is a safe learning place for my co-workers. Nurse to patient relationship will get established faster where patient will trust their nurses and open up to them. In addition, family members will also form a bond with the nurse if professionalism is maintained all the time Nurse Leader Interview Assignment.
  1. Do you consider leaders in your organization stewards of health care?
  • One of the reason I really like working to our facility is that the Director of Nursing and administrator are very active regarding their nurses concerns and problem. Since we are currently facing nursing shortage, our leaders are working really hard to make sure they support the nursing staff and able to provide necessary aid when needed. They also provide positive feedback and they also tell you how to improve so that next time, we will not commit the same mistake again. I do believe that we are lucky to have them as our leaders because they understand our point of view and advocate for the nursing staff which I think are some great traits. In addition, they also try to accommodate patient’s concerns or problems to make sure that they are getting high quality patient care. If they cannot accommodate their concerns, then they will notify other department heads if they can help.
  1. Is it important to you that leaders exercise professional advocacy and authenticity as well as power and influence when working with colleagues?
  • I do believe that leaders must exercise all these traits in order for them to become strong leaders. However, when it comes to power and influence, I do think that leaders must not over-exercise these traits as this could have a negative impact within the group. The group might believe that the leader is corrupted by power or the leader is not listening to the group’s concern and only do what he or she wants to do. Leaders must be able to advocate for the group. A strong leader must be willing to serve and lead the group by choosing what is the best interests for the group. This will enable them to achieve common goal more efficiently. A strong leader must be willing to listen to the group’s concerns and problems in order to advocate for them. Without listening, advocacy would be impossible Nurse Leader Interview Assignment.
